"Army" of programmed flying robots work together to build stuff
« on: January 26, 2011, 02:02:32 PM »

According to the article, if they can get/use technology from the MS Kinect they can make them fully autonomous and "location-aware", so all that you'd need to do would be to put in the design to build, and they'd do the rest automatically....

AWESOME!

Ive seen these lil guys before, some video last year of them showed one of the technicians throwing a hoop up and they were flying themselves through it while it was in mid air and other tests like that.

I want one.

Put Arnold Schwarzenegger in there and it's another prequel to the Terminator movies...  *gulp*

I have seen the end of humanity. It flies and makes a steady, annoying buzz.

I think we should all know by now that we can't trust robots that think for themselves! I would not want to be standing in a netted enclosure with that thing hovering near me. Did you see the guy in Octane's videos flinching away from it? Yeah. What's keeping it from attacking? When will it get tired of flying through hoops and building simple structures and decide to kill us for our own good? I don't like those things when we're not in control of them.

That said, I still want one.

I'm with Jane on this one. xD

Soon they'll be demanding Social Security benefits too!
Being a good racer in Halo isn't just about getting the best times. You have to know where your teammates and enemies are, and most of all... how to be crafty! XD -nods-

Oh... and "v.v" = sad face.

Props to Plixity for the first sig, Slayton for the Season XIII trophy sig, and Jane for the banner! Thx guys! ^.^

Well if they ever get to that point where they become self aware, able to make up their own minds, make their own decisions and action them in ways we can, learn what they want... and then manage to have access to a weapon and be able to use it... and then if they decide they dont like humanity then you might be their very first victim, Jane, ye never knoe on these things y'knoe. :shobon: *Shrug*

Or, they might let you off and just see things from our point of view and wage war with ants and gnats. Yeah and have all these different miniature robot creatures with lazer eyes and tiny chainsaw weapons and stuff.

Like this one.

And you can tell its 6am for me. I could have sworn it was midnight just 5 minutes ago.

LOL at D. all of the above!  ^^!

Anyways, Those are some really cool flying machines Mxy and Octane! I like how you can program them to fly on their own but I still think it would be cool to have a remote controlled one too!  :)

You make a good point: I'm not sure if they're wirelessly controlled, or loaded with on-board "smarts...."

My bet is they're controlled wirelessly from a main "overseer" computer.  That would keep do away with added weight/bulk due to on-board controllers being eliminated. (And would be a LOT cheaper, too!)

So no fear about them then!  Just keep an eye on the "overseer" computer!  (I.e. I have the "kill switch" for the main computer on my cellphone....  ;D )

(Of course, if they get smart enough to "know" about the kill switch ....  :o )

That'd be pretty cool.

Could give it a picture of my room clean and it would always be spotless! :)
