One of my many hobbies is painting small models. I play Warhammer 40'000, and collect the army known as Space Marines. Here are a few models built and painted by yours truly. These models are, on average, less than 1.5inches tall.

2 of my friends play/used to play warhammer, and went to/use to go to a warhammer club.

That's some awesome painting there Marty!! you've picked out the highlighting extremely well, and that is some awesome detail on the Terminator captain's eagle graphic.


I used to do the LOTR miniatures. the faces were always my downfall, but with a heckuva lot of re-doing (and realising that coffee was not the best drink to have whilst painting ultra-fine detail - shaky hands ftl) I did a few that were acceptable, and a few more that I was really proud of. I'll put up a couple of pictures if I can find them, I'm not sure if I kept any.

Would that I could return to those golden days, but my kit had to be stored once the kids started reaching up and eating the little swords and axes. (good times).

It'll come down from the loft eventually, and I'll re-learn the art.

The only pics I could find were of a set piece. Balin's tomb. The holes are where the characters are to be positioned.

I have a collection of some 40 or more Space Marines, but I've only recently switched to this colour scheme (Blood Angels, if you're interested), and am a pretty slow painter. On top of this, I don't paint often, so although I started this scheme around...hmm...maybe a year ago, I've only painted about 15 models in this scheme. Possibly less. Here are some more...

Everything you see is painted freehand; I use no templates or transfers of any kind.

Nice job on the paint work. I think I still have some of that stuff from years and years ago somewhere. A lot of expensive metal ones too (so hoping i do still have it all!) Dreadnaughts, tanks, ships, plenty of different type of marine and terminator squads and some scenery that was both bought and also some bits designed by myself (i made use of old Horny Train set stuff, came out pretty well!). An old friend back in highschool also gave me some rare ones and loads of extras since he was a long time fanatic of the whole Warhammer thing. Painted it all in the Ultra Marines colour scheme. Also had a few squads of Dark Eldars too.

It was more about the image than the game to me though so, I dont know how to play the table top game. I was simply more into just collecting, building and painting them. I did call into some Games Workshops though and the guys showed me how to play a couple of times but i've long since forgotten.

I imagine you have seen the 2010 movie (Ultra Marines)?

Warhammer 40k = AWSOMENESS! Blood angles are one of my favs aswell along side templars and space marines titans

How do you play Warhammer?

There is a fairly long set of rules that I don't have the time or space to go into in detail. Basically, your miniatures are placed on a tabletop and you take turns. Each turn is divided into three phases: Move; Shoot; Assault. Each miniature has certain characteristics that dictate how it performs in each of these phases, and almost everything depends on getting a certain dice role. So it's a combination of tactics, picking the right models, and a healthy serving of good luck.

I agree with Benjy. Blood Angels are my favs then probably the normal Space Marines and the Imperial Guard. What paints/brushes do you need for the Blood Angels colour scheme?

Undercoat: Spray black

Red:

Paint Blood Red
Heavy Wash of Asurmen Blue
Paint Blood Red except in recesses
Highlight of Blazing Orange
Final Highlight of Bleached Bone
Heavy Wash Baal Red

White:

Paint Skull White
Wash Asurmen Blue
Highlight Skull White

I do both 'warm' and 'cool' blacks, which are:

'Warm' Black:

Paint Chaos Black and Codex Grey (5:1 or so)
Highlight Codex Grey
Highlight Skull White

'Cool' Black:

Paint Chaos Black and Ultramarines Blue (5:1 or so)
Highlight by adding gradually more Ultramarines Blue and Codex Grey.

The 'Cool' Black is also modified to have a little more blue for the power weapons.

I play Warhammer Fantasy, running two armies: Warriors of Chaos (Spam in a can) and Dwarves (Guns, guns, guns).  I have some models that I have painted myself, and some that my brother, whoplays Skaven and Tomb Kings, has painted for me.
