Add me on Steam!
I lived in the days of Tanxs when he was but a kid.
BFM clan only scrims were my favorite. I was so proud to make it into the ranks of this clan, but proud enough to let that be my downfall.
I am only happy that I got to experience such a legendary clan.

Yep, GIMP is pretty good for being free, and it's what I use.

I also would suggest some tutorials. GIMP has some of the basic ones covered on their site. (LINK) After the basics, I would search for some gimp signature tutorials. There should be a couple good forums that have all kinds of tutorials.

Microsoft paint worked quite nicely for me back in the day.

Then just think about some things you like, get some pictures off the internet or take screenshots from games, and work from there.

Well, on your link it does not, because you're referring to Photoshop CS5 Extended. I referred to Photoshop CS5.

Of course, if your parents happen to know people who are in Adobe, you can get it a lot cheaper ^.6

Who has the Adobe hookup?

And I'm still waiting for the day when everyone has musical sigs.  I want a copy of Adobe Audition!  xD

I was walking through a charity shop (Oxfam, since you ask) and stumbled across the PC Games section. Glancing through, I noticed a copy of Adobe Photoshop & Premiere Elements 7 (at the time, the current model - or maybe the one just before the current model). It was going for £2 (US$5).

Astonishingly, I bought it.

Lets remember guys that this is a thread about things needed to start sig making, not how we got Photoshop. ;D

As the others have said before, Gimp is a great place to start. Though not as powerful as Adobe Photoshop, it certainly has enough features and versatility to keep you busy for quite some time. That and it's FREE!!!!!!

What I would do is download Gimp, and toy around with it a little, then check some tutorials. I found several good ones on Youtube that helped me a lot. Text sigs can be a lot of fun, so what you could do is search on Youtube for "Gimp text effects" or something similar: that should get you off to a good start.

Hope it works out for ya!  ;D
