Ya, these were Big Plans back in the 40s and 50s....

More recently the US Border Patrol (office of Homeland Security) and Air Force have been reaching toward "continuous air and land coverage" ("24x365") for surveillance and cargo transport using huge LTA craft.

The biggest problem facing these efforts: The depletion of the non-renewable helium left on Planet Earth. (And I'm NOT talking about the even rarer He-3....)
