format hard drive

I done it before but been a while now and I would like to redo my hard drive and forgot how to lol.
any suggestion?
I want to totally format and put all back in

So let me be sure here: You are going to take all your stuff off your hard drive and onto some other media/device, and then wipe your existing hard drive "clean," right? (NOTE: Unless you really want to do a lot of work you will NOT be going "back to factory state," FYI.)

The best way I found is to start by using darik's boot and nuke , google it for download info , its great because you can wipe it to DOD standards , erases all info so no one could retrieve any info at all.
Then just start with a fresh copy of windows.
You will also have to go into the bios of the computer and select the proper drive so dariks will be the primary boot device.
