The computer stands at:

Processor: AMD Athlon 64 X2 4200+ (comes up as ~2 - 2.2 GHz)
Memory: 2GB DDR PC3200 (Upped from 1 as one of the old 512MB sticks was corrupt - would be 2.5 if the mobo supported having 3 sticks... apparently it's 1, 2 or 4 only)
Mobo: NForce KN1 SLI (ECS chipset, I believe)
OS: Windows XP SP3
Graphics: ATI Radeon X1600 (256MB)
Monitor: 22" Widescreen, native resolution 1680x1050
HDD: Samsung 300GB
1 DVD reader, 1 DVD writer
Realtek sound card (built in to motherboard), with a brilliant 4-speaker + subwoofer set (originally rubbishy 2-speaker+mini woofer - would not work unless volume set to a particular level, otherwise at least one channel would cut out)
RALink wireless card

Mostly prebuilt apart from the memory which took 2 years to diagnose and replace...
And the task manager apparently didn't realise that I had a dual-core processor until the first time I reformatted the PC.

While we're on the subject (maybe a little off topic) - how do I get Halo to run in a widescreen resolution? At the moment, 1680x1050 does not appear in the list (just 1200x1600, which is unsupported by the monitor)
I think I'm using 13something x something else for Halo. It's just that using a 4:3 resolution on a 16:10 monitor causes everything to be in stretch-o-vision, and 16:9 resolutions make text input invisible and output odd.
Any ideas?

FYI: There are some pretty nice GAMING notebooks ("laptop" is SOOOO five minutes ago!  ) that won't break the bank, and I'm not just talking about the high-end ones by Alienware and the like!...

Actually, i saw THIS in a flier. It looks like a great bang for your buck.

I didn't say I wanted a notebook. I said I might get one FROM the school. Sorry that i didn't clarify that before. However a notebook would be nice.

Ok... I bought this stuff so that I could play Crysis on all high settings... so it's a little excessive for Halo, but I enjoy watching the FPS go in the 500's, so I don't care that I just wasted a whole lot of money.  I still go and do Crysis MP every once in a while to remind myself that I'm pathetic at slayer, so it wasn't a total loss.

Antec 900 case, (I put sound dampening material all over the inside)
EVGA 780i motherboard
Intel Q6600 2.4GHz quad-core
Arctic Freezer 7 Pro (I can OC the processor to 4.0GHz, running under full load it goes to 42C.  I love it!)
Intel 370GB hard drive (for slow programs and word processing, etc.)
Western Digital Caviar 320GB hard drive (not all that fast, but it's plenty)
2 x MSI NVidia 8800 GTS 512MB (G92) graphics cards (which NOW WORK!!!! they didn't until yesterday!)
Creative X-Fi XtremeGamer sound card
Antec 850Watt power supply

...And those are the main attractions.  For some reason, the NVidia drivers were faulty for the MSI type of video cards, (they are PCI-E 2.0, not regular PCI-E), so I couldn't do SLI with a 3D program for longer than 2 seconds without artifacts.  That was before their newest driver, but now the problem is fixed, so I'm happy.  However, there is one strange thing going on, still.  When I start up Crysis (it's the only game with this issue), during the logos, they play at a very slow rate, maybe 1/2 speed.  (not a big deal.)  But after installing the 1.2.1 patch (and the 1.2 before it), there was, and is, a high-pitched humming/whistling sound from inside the computer.  I'm positive that it's not from the speakers, it's from inside.  This never happened before I installed the patches, and I'm rather clueless as to how a slight program modification can make computer hardware oscillate.  Any ideas?

Thanks to Apollo for the awesome sig!
