since all games are just console ports these days you only need to buy a card that can play everything now and it will still play anything until 2014-2015 when the next generations of consoles are released.
I had honestly never thought about it that way before, but you're right!
You should've seen that coming when you think about it, because:
1) It gave the computer/OS makers TOTAL control over the hardware with the ability to be COMPLETELY custom and therefore "closed" to everyone else, and
2) It therefore also gave them total control over the software distribution as well as multi-player "services" WHICH THEY COULD SELL FOREVER AS SUBSCRIPTION SERVICES.
What business would
NOT want an environment of
total control over the hardware, software, and distribution - and therefore pricing! - FOR THE REST OF THE PRODUCT-LINE'S LIFETIME?!?
The only saving grace to sole total domination by one manufacturer is the fact that there's a somewhat competitive market due to the three(+) players in game. (Pardon the pun!

No other business has ever had such TOTAL CONTROL OVER THE PRODUCT, ITS DISTRIBUTION AND USE SO NAILED!
