desktop recording program
« on: January 23, 2008, 03:38:29 PM »
I know all about the in-game recording programs like fraps, gamecam, and so on, but what kind of program do you need to record what you are doing on your desktop?
I have Windows just to let you know.

I use Camtasia. It runs a pretty penny, but I find it to be the best out there.

I used to use CamStudio though. It is free so you might want to check it out.

Interested.

But i see some rather sluggish frame rate in a tutorial video on that site of the program in use? Is that how choppy it ends up being? Or does the program make mouse movement choppy? Im wanting a program like this myself so i can start some Reason tutorials for some friends.

Most people don't tweak the settings, and that's where they go wrong I believe. I think the new version 5 records in a default 15 fps. That's as far as I know. So, I always have it set to 30, for good quality. It also depends on the resolution that you record it at, your system specs, what file format you save it in, and even what codec you use to record it. Tweaking is the best way to figure it out.

They have a trial version that you could test out and see if you like it.
