Darnit!!

Kiwi beat me to posting that neat-o "statistical" map!

Having traveled the entire continent, I've learned to adapt WRT this particular localized vernacular, so when I moved from Michigan ("(Soda) Pop") to Northern California ("Soda") I had no problem....  ;D

(I found it interesting in the paper that went with the map that some people can order a 7-Up/Sprite drink with the word "Coke" tho!  :-X )

In NZ, and Australia I think, small kids refer to them as "fizzy drinks".  Older people mostly call them soft drinks, cokes or lemonade (which is Sprite or similar, not what you make from lemons)

I loved the Schweppes Lemonade when I was in Australia. Seen that map before as well.

It's a drink that fizzes - ie a fizzy drink. QED.

Coke is a brand of fizzy drink.
Pop is a type of music.
Soda is any chemical compound containing Sodium.

As you can see in the Mountain Time zone, they don't have carbonated beverages. xD

Actually, as the study said, it's a biased sample. We just get out of the house more :P

If you live in the southern states, Coke is the word of choice.

Funny story: my parents were down in Louisiana, and my mom ordered a 'Coke.' The server gave her a Sprite for some reason.

I use soda and pop interchangeably.  Though I'd have to say I use pop more than soda.
You blame me?  Remember it had to get past 10 other players before I saw the ball.

Thanks to Spidey for this sig!                                                                                                                  .

I don't geddit! Coke is a brand name for cola. as is pepsi. Sprite is a brand of lemon/lime fizzy drink, as is 7-up. In fact these drinks are rival brands. Tango is fizzy orange, and so is Fanta. These are all brand names so how does it happen that a whole country region encompasses all fizzy drinks in the one brand name of "coke"?
Many thanks to BFM_MiG for the awesometastic siggy!!
