SODA/POP
« on: June 25, 2009, 08:37:23 AM »
i know where i use to live it was called SODA, up here they call it pop... I dont understand that at all. It bothers me bacause pop is a form of music. i dont see the connection between music and a carbonated beverage...Soda makes more since.   whats worse is when they call it sodapop....  :argh:     My friends have no clue what im talking about when i say SODA... then i have to point at it.. i refuse to call it pop!  makes no since! It worse when your teacher says pop... D:

Carbonated drinks have been called "pop" since before there was such a thing as "pop music".  I think the beverages win that fight.

Pop actually makes logical sense, as the carbonation causes the little bubbles to form and pop.

I don't know what I call it. Don't pay attention to that sort of thing. I could call it either.

  • Despite the cost of living, it remains popular.

Pop FTW! I laugh at people when they call it soda. And then we get into a huge fight over what it should be called

I still say pop. Soda sounds funny, and not in a good way.

Soda, always has, always will be, I've never had to call it anything else so I have no reason to :P

By that logic you would have sodacorn and sodatarts too, which don't sound appetizing at all by the way :toot:

I think what you call it actually has a relationship to where you were born/raised. Most people in the northern part of America call it.....pop...   Most people in the shouthern part of America call it Soda.

Believe it or not, there was a study of this, and they even produced a map of who says pop, soda or coke!  Notice how this map is more detailed and apparently took more effort to make than ones that show who voted for Bush or Obama

In NZ, and Australia I think, small kids refer to them as "fizzy drinks".  Older people mostly call them soft drinks, cokes or lemonade (which is Sprite or similar, not what you make from lemons)
