I don't geddit! Coke is a brand name for cola. as is pepsi. Sprite is a brand of lemon/lime fizzy drink, as is 7-up. In fact these drinks are rival brands. Tango is fizzy orange, and so is Fanta. These are all brand names so how does it happen that a whole country region encompasses all fizzy drinks in the one brand name of "coke"?

Do you ask for a "facial tissue" or a KleenexTM?

Hmmmmm???

Mr. Mxy's current Word Corner word is catachresis

Nice try Mxy, but as I'm in the UK it's just a tissue. :) We have an alarming tendancy over here to call things by their actual name rather than the brand. I don't even do the "hoovering" (the wife does  :siderofl:) I vacuum the floor with my dyson vacuum cleaner.
Many thanks to BFM_MiG for the awesometastic siggy!!

I'm totally going to have to get a dyson when I move out on my own. I've always wanted one. v.v
Being a good racer in Halo isn't just about getting the best times. You have to know where your teammates and enemies are, and most of all... how to be crafty! XD -nods-

Oh... and "v.v" = sad face.

Props to Plixity for the first sig, Slayton for the Season XIII trophy sig, and Jane for the banner! Thx guys! ^.^

I don't see how people can call it "POP" for me it frankly just sounds silly... like when somebody comes to me and says, can i have a POP? i just laugh....But Soda sounds more right to me. it seems to make the sentence complete. when you end it with pop, it seems like something should be added onto the end. "can i please have a Soda?" doesn't that seem to make more since to you?

No, Fizzy drinks is too bland. It doesn't really seem like it is specific enough, Fizzy Drink to me sounds like many different drinks that it could be, but only one you are talking about. if you understand. in my mind soda seems to complete the subject more.
