Halo Modding
« on: December 27, 2009, 09:51:52 PM »
I thought I'd make a thread to talk about any Halo modding/skinning that people do, I know its quite a popular thing in the Halo world and I wondered if many do it here.

For those who don't know what I'm talking about there are programs around that you can change the look and feel of Halo with. By putting new textures/images/models all sorts into the game you can totally customize it!

Here's some of the sort of things I've done...

Heres the download for the yellow hog; Link

I'm working on retexturing and skinning all the Halo maps at the moment, but I've only done DC, BG and Timberland so far.

I used to have different skins for hogs and such but I had to re-install halo
and never got a chance to redo it.  The blood gulch textures are cool though, and I want that hog lol.

Thanks Vintage, it's awesome!

Seconded...

OH, and IF you decide to mess with skins and bitmaps, don't TOUCH the "multipurpose" skins, and ALWAYS keep the originals, unless you want to re-install Halo half a dozen times.

The "Multipurpose" skins basically refer to weapons, though some other things have them to, but they basically control the third person skins of the weapon (i.e someone else having a golden pistol, instead of just you)

Anyway, heres my stuff...

Standard M12 LRV Warthog, decked out with custom paint job and rims.

Standard M12A1 LAAV Warthog (or Rocket Hog), decked out with custom rims.

Standard MA5B Assault Rifle in every possible way, just sharpened up the details a bit.

And now, the pride of the fleet.

A Standard M6D Personal Defence Weapon System (PDWS) with 14k gold plating.

Even the magazine is gold plated!

Actually I think you might be thinking of something else (can't think of what though.. :o )

Multipurpose simply tells Halo how light should be displayed on the surface of the object. When editing them you basically use the normal skins bitmap, but colour it in with either green, blue or red.

Green: Put this on light spots, where you want it to glow, or where lights are already on the model to make it more vibrant and bright.

Blue: Shiny! This will control the reflective surface of the texture. You want something super shiny then make the multi all blue.

Red: Detail. This controls how much detail will be shown in these areas colored in red.

You apply them to your maps with programs like HMT and Eschaton

Heres a good tutorial on modding halo -> Removed

Its more of an intermediate tutorial I think though, so any questions about beginning... feel free to xfire or PM me

There's a really cool mod thats in Active Development for Halo PC and Halo-Mac. I think it's called halo (abbreviate -> for the win) 2

The whole purpose of the mod is to update the graphics on Halo PC using the original game engine, and still allowing Online Play with no issues.
Halo4TW2

I find the new Flamethrower Effect and falling contrail from the Fuel Rod amazing..  Also, the SKY is absolutely AMAZING!!!

:)  (let me know if the vid is wrong. I don't post many vids :P )

-Bleach
A part of the winning teams for season 9, 10, 13, 17, 18 and now 19. Thanks for all of the great memories guys :D
