Halo resolution on a 1080p monitor
« on: February 13, 2011, 06:00:09 AM »
So i recently got a new monitor that runs at full HD 1080p however im haveing a hard time finding a resolution in halo that works properly with the monitor my desk top resolusion is set at 1920x1080 and when in halo there are no options i can see close to this and they allseem to ether squash  the screen or streatch it. So the question is if you have a 1080p monitor what resolution do you use  / sugest.

Don't forget that Halo: Combat Evolved IS OLD!

Current monitor resolutions are now WAY beyond what Halo PC supports!

Forget what your desktop rez is set to: what is your monitor's Native Resolution?  (And thus its native Aspect Ratio....)

Once you have that info you'll want to set Halo PC to some (fractional)multiple of that aspect ratio, or as close as possible to it... or play in "windowed mode" that fits that aspect ratio....

The native res is the same as the desk rez ~1920x1080 and the aspect  ratio is 16.9

Im not a fan of windowed mode as you loose bits of the screen granted only small bits. Ether way i have a duel monitor setup so i use the 24" one as my primary  screen and the smaller 22" as my secondary and this is were i place my vent / xfire so i can see it when in game

Most people would know better than me, but I think you can change it "manually" in target line of your shortcut (and I guess xfire as well). The internet says:

Right-click your shortcut and go to Properties

On the Target line, add -vidmode height, width, refresh rate

"...\Halo\halo.exe" -vidmode 1920,1080,60

The internet has also said that some people have trouble with their chat bar at the bottom of the screen when doing that, and some other problems.

Probably make a new, temporary Halo shortcut somewhere and try it on that first. I learned that from Mxy :P

Halo has no 16x9-equivalent aspect ratio settings, so you're stuck with some contortion on-screen regardless, so try them until you find the one that's best/closest (to your eye.)

You guys have noticed that you can click on the bottom right of the windowed Halo and drag it to various sizes? >.>

I'm not sure if it'll stretch to the size of your screen but.... perhaps it's worth a try?
Being a good racer in Halo isn't just about getting the best times. You have to know where your teammates and enemies are, and most of all... how to be crafty! XD -nods-

Oh... and "v.v" = sad face.

Props to Plixity for the first sig, Slayton for the Season XIII trophy sig, and Jane for the banner! Thx guys! ^.^

Out-of-the-box, Halo recognises and allows me to select my laptop's native res.: 1366x768 (it also shows 1360x768 as an option)

Both of these are ~16:9, and 1360x768 appears as an option on my desktop (native 1080p) so it'd be an OK option if you want 16:9, and don't mind the fairly low res.

I'd be one such person. Doing that made my chat text disappear, so I had no idea what I was typing. (The first time it happened, I was rather confused as to what was going on...  )

Here's 1080p with fully working chat.  :)

Turns out Halo uses the chat positioning settings for 1920x1200 when you use -vidmode to force full HD (so the chat box you type in is present, but positioned off the screen  )
