No, I am not trying it on two different computers to compare the difference.... I use two different computers to race.
In case one is not available I use the other.

I want to correct my XP computer..

Now, the differences between the two computers that I have.

1. Vista has many more upgrades and can work much better with Ventrilo, while XP has a limited amount of choices for some of its features... such as that I only have 2 choices for my input and output effects.. (voice set up tab in Ventrilo)

2. Vista is newer than my XP computer.

3. I have more choices of how I want my microphone to work on the Vista than on the XP (Admin privileges + program availability)

If there is anything else you need to know about my computer please PM me since it will probably get my attention faster than the tech section, and it will probably also allow me to ask my dad any other differences between them in very short order so that I can PM them back to you quickly. Therefore, saving you from getting confused by my posts, and talking with somebody who actually knows what he is doing.

Step 0) COMPLETELY IGNORE THE VISTA MACHINE.  (Except maybe to confirm that the headset and mike work with WINDOWS SOUND RECORDER (and NOT with Ventrilo, which is irrelevant to it working on the XP machine....)

Step 1) Start an independent thread about this with this as the first post:

I can hear people on vent fine, but they cannot hear me, and even then they say I'm a bit quiet.

My machine is Windows XP, headset/mic proven to work fine with Windows Sound Recorder on another computer, and work fine to record/playback my voice via Windows Sound Recorder on the XP system, too.

Of course, only post that AFTER you've done the steps to PROVE those last two points!!

ok here is my problem, even though chief got his mic working or got a new one i can only hear him talk for a second or the then it just goes static/fuzzy to were i can understand what he is saying but i can hear his phone when it rings over vent normaly

Ya, I heard him the other day.

Sounds to me like he has mic/sound system problems rather than ventrilo problems.

Chief should try recording his voice via that headset and playing it back using Windows Sound Recorder before we try anything else....

Idk what it is but i am trying to get halo to work on a newer computer so maybe that might help with the situation


EDIT: Problem fixed by cloning my original ventrilo account and putting in current username (don't put your volume really loud may cause talking problems)

errr, my volume is allways maxed else i can't really hear anyone on ventrilo, have just changed my audio-boost in vent so it's not fully now yet i can still barely hear some people and others i can hear good.

Have you tested to assure that this volume problem happens only in Ventrilo?  (I.e. How does it sound when you record and playback your voice with the Windows Sound Recorder?

Also, what have you got the ventrilo "Settings" -> "Voice" tab -> "Input Device" and "Output Device" set to? (And do you have BOTH of the "Use Direct Sound" check boxes checked?

Finally, what device is your "Hardware input mixer (Optional)" set to?  (Perhaps posting a screenshot of your Ventrilo Setup window would be best.... (Hint: Select the "Setup" window, then hold down the <ALT> key when taking the screenshot....)

ok here is a nother problem i have, usualy when i join i can here welcom to the server to a decent level and today the sound is really quiet, sound on max mixer for vent maxed. i am using windows 7.

I get this with a few people, but it is only when i have the "Use Direct Sound" box ticked.
As they start talking, all sounds go staticky and i can barely hear them and the other things i am listening to. 
I need to keep the Direct Sound box ticked so that i can change people's volumes....

ventrillo isnt accepting my name or pass. but i havent touched it. its all saved so all i do is press connect. T.T

Get with an officer (Lieutenant or higher) on xfire or the forums and have them reset your vent account.  You should re-enter your password, even if it is the same as before.
